What's Your Story?
Earlier this month, we launched our new company mynt in Las Vegas. We were invited to speak at the event and we covered twenty five years of our career in twenty five minutes. The topic we chose to speak on was; “The Dream, The Struggle, and The Prize.” When you study anyone who has had success in life, these three things will certainly be part of their story.
It always starts with a dream to be _______ (healthier, smarter, financially successful, etc.) This is immediately followed by the struggle. (Unfortunately, this is where most stories end) But, for the people who stay focused and don’t give up, their story will eventually lead to the prize.
After the conference, I received several calls and emails thanking us for sharing our story. While I appreciate the compliments, at 48 years old, our story isn’t finished yet. But “our story” wasn’t the point… It was their story. It’s yours!
This leads me to my point here today. Too many people spend their time focusing on everyone else’s success story rather than creating their own. They will often try to avoid the work by identifying themselves with a successful business partner, a sports team, or a celebrity. But being associated with a winner will never be the same as becoming one.
You can never be so satisfied with the success stories of others and how things have gone for them that you forget to write your own. Unfold your own tale and bring it to life. You have everything you need to become what you are capable of becoming. But first, you must take responsibility for your own story. You must take charge of your life rather than spending it like the masses, wandering from one “so called” urgent task to the other. Unfortunately, too many people have their life story written with someone else’s hand on the pen. They don’t work for their own dream, so they are hired by someone else to build theirs. But that doesn’t have to be you!
Incredible change happens when you decide to take control and to live your life rather than just watching others live. If you want your life story to soar to new heights this year, you’ve got to clear a path, reduce the burdens weighing you down, concentrate on the habits that will get you better results, and focus on the dreams that give you wings!
You have got a story to tell, and I can’t wait to hear it!
You’ve got this!
